Dragonball: The Movie coming summer of 2008

Date December 5, 2007 by Terence

Another anime to hit the bigscreens! This time its the super popular Dragonball series. If you have been living under a coconut shell all this while, Dragonball is a story based on Akira Toriyama’s popular manga that has spawned graphic novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 videogames. All of which have sold more than 10 million units since May 2002.

The studio responsible for this is Twentieth Century Fox and they are certainly not incapable of bringing comic to life. Just check out the X-Men trilogy and Elektra. Names that have been mentioned to be aboard this film are Justin Chatwin as Goku and James Marsters as the villainous Piccolo. You may remember Marsters from the Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the Angel series. While Chatwin was in War of the Worlds as Tom Cruise’s son.

The movie is slated to be produced by legendary actor-director-write Stephen Chow (Kung-Fu Hustle) based on a script written by James Wong who will also be directing it. Wong previous direction was Final Destination and its sequel Final Destination 3.

Shooting has already begun since the end of last month and Fox will bow the sci-fi/adventure worldwide Aug. 15. Chatwin has already begun training with 87Eleven, the stunt performance company behind the action sequences in “The Matrix,” “The Bourne Supremacy,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “300.”
