Speed Racer & Gatchaman’s Writer Pass Away

Rest in peace Mr Toriumi; you’ll always be remembered

Legendary writer in the anime industry, Jinzo Toriumi, passes away last Thursday at the age of 78. Toriumi was world-recognized as the storyboard writer for famous Japanese television animes such as Mach Go Go Go (Speed Racer), Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets/G-Force), and Yatterman. Due to his awesome works, in May 26 2000, he receives the (Scenario) Scriptwriting Award from the Japan Writers Guild. He leaves behind his wife, Kazuyo.

Toriumi has wrote some of the most notable works known today such as:

Mushi Production (1964): Mighty Atom (Astro Boy)
Tatsunoko Production (1965): Casshern, Tekkaman & Time Bokan
Sunrise Inc: Armored Tropper Votoms, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors) & Mr Ajikko
Novel version of Gatchaman, Shin Heiyoden & Dororo
Anime Scenario Nyumon (An Introduction to Anime Scriptwriting book)
