GAMP 2010 @ IMU Sri Petaling

The inaugural Games Anime Manga Party (GAMP) was held at the International Medical University, Sri Petaling yesterday. How did it went?
The Ramadhan month did not stop the committee from holding GAMP, but somehow we had a feeling that it was the reason why there basically only a handful of people there during the opening at 10am. Nevertheless, started it went. Crowds was dished out with the usual J-Pop/animu songs from the PA system in the hall, and also could partake in some console fighting game that was set up in a corner.
Nearing 12pm, the crowds has grown a bit. The emcees tried their best with some random jokes and banter with the crowds to liven things up before the cosplay competition began. Overrunning it’s schedule by 1 hour (it was supposed to end at 2 but instead ends at 3), it was nevertheless greeted enthusiastically by the crowds.
DESU then stepped up on stage for their band performance. Not to be outdone by DESU, the crowds was given the chance to show their skills with karaoke. If any band wanted to look for a new singer, than this was the place to be. 2 short skits featuring Bleach and then Vocaloids follows, and then resumed with another performance by Desu.
All in all, it was a good event. The hall was and the surrounding was bright and large, giving orgasm to cosplay photographers that attended the events. The committee also had a good idea of a second hand item booth, where people can give them their items to be sold, in hoping someone from the crowd is interested enough to buy it. Quite a good way to sell off your unwanted items I must say. And this was one of the few events that is held at a place really accessible with public transport, and such it was easy to go.
Something that we found out later was that some other bands has applied to perform as well, but was turned down with various reasons that found out later, turns out to be non issues. It was disappointing really, since there was a large gap after the skits that could have been filled out by the applying bands. In fact, due to this large gap many of the crowds thought nothing will happen anymore, and thus went home early. This should be addressed in the future.
All in all, it was a good event, and kudos to them. We hope that it will be a better one next year
