It was a sight of anguish and disappointment in the pit of Team Good Smile Racing, who won convincingly here last year when it’s car failed to finish the race. The BMW Z4 Car 0 was running second when on the very last lap had an engine failure and limped to a halt just metres from the end.

It was much more painful to the team as Good Smile Company president Takanori Aki along with Max Factory’s Max Watanabe was also at the team’s pitwall. Aki and Max earlier had attended Anime Festival Asia Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur was visibly disappointed with the result. The #4 sister car, the GSR Project Mirai meanwhile finished a lonely 10th, nearly 1 minute behind the winner, the Hankook Porsche of Masami Kageyama and Tomonobu Fujii.

The Petronas sponsored Evangelion 01 Mooncraft Shiden car meanwhile finished 5th, lacking pace on a hot and sweltering Sunday as teams struggled to find grip with their (mostly) Yokohama shod tyres. Again this year, it also left out it’s 02 Porche car in Japan leaving the Shiden as the lone car to fight for the team’s honour. Seeing the final result tho, in retrospective it might have been a mistake by the team.

The last anime themed car, the Pacific NAC Ika Musume Ferrari was down in 13th

place, 1 lap behind the leaders. Local hopeful Fairuz Fauzy’s dream of a good show in front of the home crowd was cut short as his Thuder Asia’s Mosler MT900M retired on lap 21 with mechanical problem.

In the main Super GT class meanwhile, Belgian driver Carlo Van Dam along with Japanese driver Takashi Kogure took the checkered flag in their Weider HSV-010 Honda. Ironically this was

the same car that won at this track last year, albeit with Loïc Duval in the place of Van Dam.
